Abstract
Micropapillary serous carcinoma(MPSC) has recently been described as a distinct ovarian neoplasm that shares histologic features with both serous borderline tumors and typical serous carcinomas of the ovary. MPSC is characterized by a filigree pattern of highly complex micropapillae arising from directly, bulbous papillary structures. It often lacks destructive infiltrative growth but appears to behave as a low grade invasive carcinoma. We report a case of MPSC with brief review of literature, occurring in a 67-year-old woman with lower abdominal mass. Patient had bliateral ovarian cysts, measuring 8.0¡¿7.0¡¿6.0 cm and 4.5¡¿3.0¡¿2.3 cm in dimensions. The ovarian cysts showed small papillary excrescences. Microscopically, the tumor showed the filigree pattern of exophytic micropapillary areas, composed of moderately atypical epithelial cells with a small distinct nucleus and typical areas of serous borderline tumor. MPSC should be included in the differential diagnosis when serous cystic lesion, especially borderline malignancy occurs in the ovary.
